About

Hi, I’m Kathy, Kathryn Grace, or GraceKathryn. Welcome to my blog.

Way back when I was a tiny tot of 15 years old, I was in a super-cool and extremely musically sophisticated (*sarcastic cough*) punk bank called the Suburban Bitches. Never in my wildest dreams (or ironic nightmares) would I have guessed that 15 years later I would be actually living out something quite resembling the so-called ‘American Dream’ in suburbia… complete with a loving husband, two adorable chihuahuas, a full time job, and a mortgage in a reasonably nice suburban neighborhood. I fully grasp the hilarity and absurdity of it all.

It is with this in mind that I give you Suburban Kitsch. I love politics, philosophy, religion, art, music, film, and culture – and I love people. I’ve never claimed to be an expert on any of these things nor to have anything particularly original to say, but that’s certainly not going to stop me from running my mouth. I am currently pursuing a Masters degree in Public Administration (Political Science, Public Policy, Management, and the like), and I also have an educational background in Social Sciences and Organizational Studies with an emphasis in Sociology. My husband Jared is currently finishing his 3rd and final year of law school, and he is also in the process of completing a Master of Arts degree in Philosophy. Jared and I watch a lot of movies – and I listen to a lot of music. Between the both of us, we combine to form the Voltron of über-nerd marriage, minus the whole loving Star Trek and Star Wars thing. You should hear our private dinner-table conversations. They’re classic!

Therefore, I have just enough knowledge about the world to be a little bit dangerous… and yet not enough knowledge to be considered an expert in any particular area. However, I do try to stay well-informed regarding current events and to listen objectively to reasonable arguments made by adherents to any viewpoints.

But what it really boils down to is this: there is no reason at all for you to listen to anything I have to say.

Enjoy!

The posts prior to June 2009 are imported from old blogs I kept in various locations on the web. First there was Kathryn’s Grace in early 2006, then my Myspace blog in 2006-2008, then some Facebook notes in 2008-2009. As of June 2009, I hope to make Suburban Kitsch my permanent blogging home.
